Discovery Networks is now a registered Microsoft® FrontPage®
2000 Web Presence Provider.
See how easy it is to use FrontPage to create
your website.
Notes on how to create and upload your web pages:
(For Discovery Networks customers only.) Call 977-1700 if you're
interested in a commercial web page.
Create your web page on your local machine:
- Be sure to follow the guidelines set forth in the acceptable use page.
- Download an HTML editor to your PC, or create the page by hand.
- We can scan your photos into digital form for a nominal fee. E-mail Discovery for more details.
- Make sure you call it "index.htm" or "index.html"
- Links to your other pages should be relative to your directory.
- Don't make links like: (href src="C:/webpages/xyz.htm")
- Make them like this: (href src="xyz.htm") Assuming "C:/webpages/" is where you're creating your page.
- Make it look pretty. ;-)
Upload your web page:
- Make sure you have an ftp client.
- If you don't have one, get one from the Software page.
- Start the ftp session:
- You must ftp your pages to the web server: 'www.dnx.net'.
- Do NOT use anonymous ftp. (The web server wont allow it anyway.)
- Use your normal user id and password.
- Make sure you set the remote directory to "/docroot/yourid", if it's not already. (You wont be able to put it anywhere else, anyway.)
- Questions? Read the online manuals first. If you're stuck, we'll be happy to help.
- Transfer them up. Make sure of the direction you're going.
(On subsequent updates, being wrong, will destroy the changes you just made to the web pages on your PC!)
Updates:
- Use your PC to change your page as often as you like.
- Ftp the new version up.
- REMEMBER: Re-load your new page, otherwise your cache will show you the old version.
